Student Spotlights

On their home university campuses, KGSP students take advantage of many fun and educational activities to explore the intersection of their academic and personal interests. Engagement with activities outside the classroom is highly encouraged by the KGSP, as such opportunities allow students to expand their knowledge, broaden their social network, and develop their professional business acumen; qualities that will benefit and enrich their development both as students and as future leaders.

Student Spotlights

i-FssKLpJ-XLKhaled Alqahtani, a freshman at the University of California, Berkeley, joined the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive Student Committee (BAMPFA-SC).  The student organization seeks to inspire imagination and community engagement through artistic expression.  Although majoring in Biological Sciences, Khaled wanted to pursue his passion for the arts, but also cultivate new skills and expertise that can be utilized for his personal growth and professional development.   In his position, he organizes BAMPFA events on campus, and writes bimonthly articles for the organization’s website.  Khaled believes that BAMPFA is perfect for him to improve his writing skill and aligns with his aspirations of becoming a science journalist.

AhmedAhmed Alsaggaff, a senior majoring in Biology at the University of California, San Diego, attended the 2020 Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM) in San Diego.  Sponsored by the Advancing Earth and Space Science (AGU), the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), and The Oceanography Society (TOS), the OSM is the flagship conference for the ocean science  community to discuss contemporary solutions to environmental challenges and share scientific breakthroughs.

With over 5,000 industry professional from 60 countries, Ahmed enjoyed attending the many informative presentations, and talking with the scientists about their discoveries. He believed that his attendance would improve his research skills and provide more insight to his interest in Marine Science, especially as it reinforced what he learned from his classes, his research at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, and his summer enrichment at KAUST.
