THE KGSP

KGSP Students Work-Life Balance

The journey of learning is an important one that not only takes place inside of a classroom, but in the outside world as well.  Throughout the undergraduate journey, KGSP students are encouraged to join and participate in activities outside the classroom to help them make the most of their college experiences.  UC Berkeley Junior Faris Babsail and Pomona College Senior Sultan Aldawodi were both interviewed about a few of their hobbies and how these activities have benefited them.

Faris Babsail reports that: “Having consistent hobbies like Brazilian Jui Jitsui and hiking forces me to build real balance into my week. When I protect that time, I’m more disciplined, less burnt out, and more focused at work and in school.”

“Backpacking and hiking reset me. Getting out of the deadlines and into long trails and quiet views reminds me why I’m working hard in the first place, and I come back clearer and with better energy.”

According to Sultan Aldawodi: “I have a couple of hobbies that are really important to me. The first is retro gaming and competitive gaming. I enjoy participating in local events, whether that’s Halo, Mario Kart, or Super Smash Bros.  I really enjoy the sense of community and friendly competition that comes with it.”

“My second hobby is skiing as soon as the season starts. I’m an active member of the Claremont Colleges Ski & Board Club, and I take part in nearly every trip they organize to Big Bear Mountain or nearby resorts. The rush and excitement of skiing with friends is unmatched.”

Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential to me. I always make time to enjoy these hobbies when I can because they keep me energized, motivated, and connected with others beyond academics.
